Morgan + AJ's Intimate Wedding at The Penny

Morgan and AJ had a rainy, romantic wedding at the gorgeous San Luis Obispo wedding venue The Penny. The urban space is the perfect spot for intimate weddings, offering a chic indoor brick ambiance as a backdrop for bohemian decor. I had the pleasure of interviewing Morgan about the special day.

Their Love Story

"AJ and I met in highschool, my best friend at the time Kayla and his best friend Mike are siblings so we met through them. Once we graduated I (Morgan) joined the Air Force and AJ proposed a few months after I graduated basic military training in 2019. The pandemic ended up rocking our wedding planning a bit but we had our dream wedding and tied the knot in September of 2022!"

The Inspiration

"Our wedding theme was inspired greatly by the venue itself. The Penny in SLO is beautiful and it didn't take much to transform the space to make it our dream wedding. I wanted it to feel moody with lots of candle light and we had lots of greenery in the space."

Color Palette

"Black, natural greenery, and lilac purple."

The Details

"I was very excited about my dress, it was my dream dress since before I met AJ and I was very happy I ended up with it. We were also really excited about the food, Haute Skillet was a great company to work with."

Memorable Moments

"Near the end of the night it started to rain and Alexandra (our awesome photographer) ran with us down the street to take pictures in the rain. It was so fun and ended up being the most magical pictures of the night."

Knowing what you know now... what advice would you have for other brides planing their wedding?

"Keep the guest list intimate if you can, it made the day much less stressful to be surrounded by only our closest family and friends."

What was the most challenging part about planning your wedding?

"Planning from another state for sure. Being active duty military I was planning this with the help of my mom from the other side of the country."
