Drue and Brian tied the knot on a sunny day at the Edna Valley wedding venue, MarFarm. Filled with love and charming details, the modern farmstay had plenty of stunning photo opportunities for San Luis Obispo photographer Alyssa Flores to capture. With elegant country-esque accessories and adorable farm friends at the venue, San Luis Obispo planner, designer and florist Mark Dillon Luna created a vision for the couple's dream love story. I had the opportunity to interview my friend Drue about her special day.

Their Love Story

"We actually met through a job interview, but I promise it's not as creepy as it sounds! Brian and his coworker, Lauren, were renting space from a wine lab in Paso Robles when I was interviewing for a position at the lab. I used to work with Lauren at another company so when Brian and I hit it off after my interview, Lauren was kind enough to help facilitate with the phone number exchange. We started dating in May of 2019 and the rest is history! We moved to Pismo Beach in August of 2020, got our Bernedoodle, Chandler, in January 2021, and before I knew it, Brian was on one knee during the Pismo Beach 4th of July fireworks show that same year! I think we both have a new found appreciation for that holiday."

Color Theme

"We went with earth tones for the overall colors. We wanted to use colors that complemented the venue and the surroundings of Edna Valley!"

Inspiration

"I think the majority of our inspiration came after deciding on our wedding venue, MarFarm. Jill and Hamish Marshall were kind enough to welcome us to their property in Edna Valley. The space just felt right for us and provided the experience we wanted to give our guests! The MarFarm design is an elegant mix of modern and chic, while truly embracing the barn atmosphere within every detail so this is ultimately what inspired the theme of our wedding."

The Details

"It's really hard to pick what we were most excited about! We were lucky enough to have our dog, Chandler, in attendance. That was really special for all of our family and friends that had not yet met him. He's quite the character! The horses and farm animals that live at MarFarm were also an unexpected success with our guests! It was a unique experience that our guests are still raving about weeks later!"

Memorable Moments

"One of my favorite memories was the first look with my dad and mom. My dad gifted me with his great grandmother's diamond ring that they converted into a necklace for me to wear on the wedding day and to cherish for years to come. Neither of Brian nor my grandparents were able to attend the wedding so that was super sweet. Another one of my favorite memories was our ceremony! We kept it short and simple (like 10 minutes from start to finish). My brother officiated the ceremony and it felt super intimate but also true to us. We laughed with all of our guests and accidentally mixed up the order of our vows and ring exchange but we wouldn't trade it for the "perfect" ceremony. It was totally us and set the tone for the rest of the evening!"

"Knowing what you know now... what advice would you have for other brides planing their wedding?"

"Enjoy the process and trust your vendors! We were so grateful to have such an experienced team that really helped us through the planning process and made the experience much less stressful! The day goes by so fast so enjoy every minute with your significant other and your loved ones that are there to celebrate you!"

"What was the most challenging part about planning your wedding?"

"It's easy to get carried away with the little details and it was important to remind myself about the real reason I was there, to marry the one I love!"

If you used The Wedding Standard when planning your wedding, can you tell us what you loved about it?"

"The Wedding Standard was so helpful with the initial planning phase! We actually found a couple of our vendors through the site and really appreciated the blogs with inspiration and recommendations from real couples. It is a great testament to what the Central Coast wedding industry has to offer!"
